“We’re home for Thanksgiving, y’all.”
Back Home Ballers may be the most fantastic skit I have ever witnessed. (You will not understand this post if you don’t immediately watch this video. Trust me. It’s worth the three and a half minutes.) This SNL skit featuring Cameron Diaz encapsulates all the joys of going home – eating all your favorite foods, “wearing pajamas that cost ten dollars” & having your parents treat you like a queen. I have been in Long Valley for less than twenty-four hours, but here is a list of things that make me feel like a genuine back home baller. Cause, you know… I do what I want and I get what I want ’cause my parents miss their daughter!
- Waking up to the smell of banana bread baking
- Listening to Meghan’s perfectly curated Christmas playlist on Spotify
- Having my dad make me over-easy eggs even though everyone else wanted scrambled
- Watching the snow fall on the trees & sparkly lights outside
- Getting my hair cut & blown out at Nanette’s Salon with my mom, something I haven’t done in over ten years
- Drinking Pinot Grigio from Kerry & playing Jeopardy as a family
- Taking photos in the snow with Sean
- Eating more chicken parmesan than should be allowed in Madewell high-waist jeans
Inspired by Lil’ Baby Aidy & the other fab women in this song, I decided to dress up in my own version of a back home baller – gold chains, fur vest, & “Gangsta” glitter ring.
{ Banana Republic Turtleneck | Vera Wang for Kohl’s Fur Vest | Madewell Jeans | BCBG Wedges | Pearl Earrings | Vintage Kenneth Jay Lane Necklace | Oakley Sunglasses | Vintage Hat }
Never one to take a backseat, my baller brother, Sean, jumped into the shoot. It’s his first Thanksgiving home in three years, and he’s using the free WiFi like a boss. The password starts with seventeen Os…
“Tell my mother that I love her more than anybody other.
That’s the life of a back home baller.”
