NYE Fur & Sequins

The countdown to New Year’s Eve is officially on!

You may remember this outfit from my previous post Christmas Party Attire. In order to make it ready to wear for NYE, I simply removed the Christmas colored bracelets & added this vintage fur coat that belonged to my grandmother.

If you know me at all, you know that I consider actress, philanthropist, & shoe designer Sarah Jessica Parker, chiefly as her Sex and The City character, Carrie Bradshaw, one of my most influential style inspirations. I loved the SATC movie, and while there are many scenes that feature fabulous fashion, one of my favorite moments is New Year’s Eve.

In brief, Carrie is already in bed & about to go to sleep when she receives a call from her friend, Miranda. Sensing that her friend is feeling distressed & lonely during this night that is supposed to epitomize celebration, Carrie rushes out the door – in her pajamas, fur coat, & sequin beret. Opening the door, Miranda is shocked that Carrie would make such an effort to remind her that she is never alone. As the two friends embrace & the ball drops in Times Square, “Auld Lang Syne” plays quietly in the background.

While this skirt & top combination are most definitely not pajamas, I like to think that the fur & sequins are a subtle nod to a character that I truly admire, one who reminds us all how important it is to care for each other, even when it is difficult & especially during the holidays.
