The fashion world mourns the loss of Oscar de la Renta, a highly-refined designer and kindly gentleman with wide customer appeal. Since the announcement of his death, his contributions to the world have been remembered by bloggers, First Ladies, industry insiders, celebrities, and the everyday woman who felt a connection to the brand he developed. Although I have never had the privilege of wearing one of those legendary Oscar de la Renta gowns, I rented his earrings from Rent the Runway for a formal my freshman year. Emerald-colored & glamorous, I’ll be damned if they didn’t make me feel like a princess.
Some of the most touching words about Mr. de la Renta came from Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour. She wrote, “His last words to me were I love you, and I said I love you back.” It is evident that he will be remembered not only for the designs he brought to life but for the inspiration he gave to those he worked with along the way.
As Mr. de la Renta once said, “Fashion is about dressing according to what’s fashionable. Style is more about being yourself.” It is rare to find a quote so embodying of the STYLESILIKE belief in dressing & living according to what makes you feel the most confident & the most beautiful.
