No two days in New York are the same, but some days are absolutely fabulous.
In the spirit of honesty, I had never seen an episode of the BBC cult classic, Absolutely Fabulous, before attending the Chelsea premiere this past week. However, I took a single look at the movie poster, and I accepted the invitation on the spot. I had mentioned the premiere to my friend, Josh, and as luck would have it, he has been an AbFab fan since childhood.
The crowd was buzzing with excitement. Before the movie, the co-stars, Jennifer Sanders and JoAnna Lumley, stopped by to answer a few question, blow kisses to the audience, & snap a selfie. While you could feel the love radiating towards these two fabulous ladies from the crowd assembled, they were quick to return the affection. They emphasized their gratitude for the LGBTQ community efforts to bring AbFab to not just New York City but a much broader American audience. As JoAnna said, “I think we love you very much more than very much.”
If you like the industry insight of “The Devil Wears Prada” with the physical comedy that films, such as Bridesmaids, usually incorporate, AbFab is for you. Between JoAnna drinking a bottle of Chanel No.5 to Jennifer accidentally pushing Kate Moss off the top of a bridge, there is no shortage of laugh out loud moments. Without a prior love of this iconic series, I genuinely enjoyed every minute of the film. Jennifer spoke at the premiere about why she wrote the movie. She explained that she wrote the film so she & JoAnna could hang out.
Hope you have a fantastic weekend filled with over-the-top fashion, champagne, & an earth-shattering realization of the power of female friendship.
