HAPPY NEW YEAR

People always say out with the old for the New Year. However, I am a sentimental at heart, so I think sometimes it’s nice to continue to bring those traditions into the new journey you are about to embark on. I have spent every New Year’s Eve of my life at my grandparent’s house in Long Island, celebrating with my family.

Having been a mother of the bride/groom at seven weddings, my grandmother has closets full of vintage dresses. When I was younger, all of the kids would put on fashion shows for our parents. This may be our last time spending the holidays at 47 Wichard Boulevard. So when my younger cousins, Annie & Maggie, offered to take some photos for STYLESILIKE, I decided it was time for one last dance in those dresses.

While I honestly wore the jeans under the dress because it was cold outside, I really liked the look. I have been inspired by the “dress over pants” style since Emma Watson wore black cigarette pants & a Dior Couture red dress to the Golden Globes last January. Stay tuned for more looks like this in the coming months.

As always, this shoot was a group effort. I had visited the Blo Lounge the day before (posting about my experience here tomorrow), and my hair was still looking shiny & sleek despite the fact my curls had mostly fallen. Very kindly, when my mom went to get her hair done, my grandmother’s hairdresser offered to add a few extra curls to my hair as a treat. Maggie & Annie were a fab creative team; it was their idea to add the glittery New Year’s props! They were encouraging me to try all different kinds of poses, in order to make the clothes look as beautiful as possible.

I have a lot to post about over the next few days, especially some good news about my sister, Kerry! I am terrible at getting my resolutions finalized by January 1, but I will be sure to share soon, once I do some serious reflection.

Kick up your heels & be grateful we all have a year FULL of opportunities ahead of us.
