Are You Ready to Rabbit?

Maybe it’s just me, but I find my days are getting busier in direct correlation with the arrival of this beautiful weather in Boston. Between final exams, team formals, parties (graduation or otherwise), and general end of year festivities/activities, I can see my amount of free time shrinking at a rapid rate. The real problem with losing this time is that I potentially lose already limited time to connect with friends and family. Yet, just in time for spring, Rabbit has come hopping along to help!

Rabbit’s video chat technology is, by far, the best I have ever experienced. I don’t like it; I love it. Through a Jebbit connection, I was privileged to meet with two of Rabbit’s founders last week, Nicholas Reichenbach and Stephanie Morgan. It is evident that their team has put extensive consideration into the design of the software, which has made Rabbit a high-quality but functionally easy tool.

Here are my top FIVE reasons for why you should download Rabbit today:

1. Unlimited Number of People

Rabbit was created with the intention of making chat accessible. The ability to chat with a seemingly infinite amount of people is a feature I find especially appealing. I think it would be the simplest way to connect the many members of my family in New Jersey, New York, Massachusetts, and other places around the country. Without a limit to the number of people who can be in your video chat, the possibilities for connecting are endless.

2. Rabbit Rooms

Although you can engage with as many people as possible in public chat rooms, you have the opportunity to make private chat rooms in Rabbit. The best part about rooms is that you can float seamlessly from one conversation to another, whether it is private or public.

3. Streaming Media

One of the most innovative features of this software is the ability to share a multitude applications/files (Microsoft Word, iTunes, iPhoto, etc.) and media content, such as online TV shows and movies, with your friends and family all while video chatting.

Imagine it. Being able to watch a favorite movie and laugh at the same parts with my sisters and brother despite being 500 miles apart? Working on a group project virtually yet being able to dually contribute ideas and view my team? Showing my best friend from summer camp a song that reminds me of our shared childhood memories? It’s pretty clear to me that Rabbit rocks. However, even if you are busy working on your own work or other computer related commitments, it is easy for Rabbit to remain on and in the background as a natural part of your desktop. You are able to be easily connected for hours at a time, whether or not you actually have long periods of time to chat.

4. Personalized Connection

Rather than having that awkward blank wall or some distracting moving scenery as the background of your chat, Rabbit makes having a conversation as simple and natural as possible. When I am chatting with a friend on Rabbit, I see only the top of their face and their shoulders contained within a circular bubble. I am, thus, able to concentrate on them and what they are saying (and not any distractions) for the duration of my chat.

5. It’s for FREE!

No catch. No trick. No funny business. Rabbit is a free download that is available to anyone with Mac OS X (10.7 or higher).

Really… what more do you need to know?!

After Tech Trek this past March, my interest in hot technology start-ups, such as Rabbit, has only increased. Stephanie Morgan, Chief Creative Officer at Rabbit, has graciously agreed to do an interview for Styles I Like next Thursday, April 18th, utilizing Rabbit video chat technology. She will discuss her role on the Rabbit team, the process of building a start-up, the unique position of women in Silicon Valley, and much more. There will be a short Q&A at the end of our discussion, so please comment below or tweet at me (@CullenErin) any questions you have for Stephanie or myself.

Have a hoppy Wednesday downloading Rabbit!
